Patricia Dover

Optician

Where were you born and where did you grow up?
I was born in South Carolina, then moved to West Virginia, so I grew up in a mix of the two.

What was your first job?
My first official job was at a local dry cleaners in West Virginia. I primarily ran the pants press and the front counter. I still get disgruntled with my iron at home because it doesn't do as good of a job as the industrial tools I worked with there.

What was your favorite subject to study in school?
I have a love/hate relationship with physics.

What are your hobbies?
I like stories, so I enjoy reading a variety of books & watching movies. I also like arranging flowers, as well as playing board games, card games, and trivia.

Do you have pets? If so, what kind of animal are they and what are their names?
Yes! I have an orange tabby cat named Raziel, after a character in one of my favorite movies. Kudos to anyone who knows what movie!

Where is your favorite place you've traveled to?
I visited Niagra Falls in the winter. It was absolutely beautiful. I would like to go back during a warmer season to see the difference, too, and to take one of the boats into the falls themselves.

What is something most people don't know about you?
Once upon a time, I was a decent ballroom dancer. I didn't compete or anything, but went out to a lot of events and showed off with my partner at some parties. I am WAY out of practice now, though.

What skill would you most like to learn?
Typing well without looking at the keyboard. This is a valuable, time-saving skill! Do not side-step this in school, kids!

What is one thing on your bucket list?
I'd like to get my Cave/Cavern SCUBA certification.

What is one thing that instantly makes your day better?
Blankets.

If you had to describe yourself in three words, which words would you choose?
Curious. Thorough. Food-motivated.

What is your favorite thing about working at Lake Dillon Eye Care?
I like the positive environment here. Dr. Wills Vanray is very supportive of his staff. He encourages us, helps us pursue training, and directly helps us learn more about the eyes and the various health conditions affecting them. I have learned a lot since starting here. ...but the treats we get from Dr. Melissa Vanray are a definite perk as well!
